Mark Reinhold just posted the new community bylaws draft for the Open JDK.  Mark Wielaard, a Red Hat engineer, posted his feedback in the comments and Simon Phipps has commentary on his blog (On a scale of -10 to +10, he gave the current draft a -3).  You can keep up with the community feedback on the OpenJDK mailing list.

Orion M5 Has Firebug
Another milestone for Eclipse's new-and-sexy Web-based IDE, Orion, hit this week.  You can now view an implementation of the independent Javascript formatter and Firebug has been initially integrated.

Yahoo Merging its Hadoop with Apache Hadoop
Yahoo decided that it's internal distro of Hadoop is branching too far from the Apache software.  The company recently decided to merge several years of their independent work on Hadoop with Apache, which should be a great benefit for the open source community.  Yahoo says their Hadoop distro has some major performance advantages that it will try to add to the Apache version.

STS 2.6 Begins Milestone Cycle
The first milestone of SpringSource Tool Suite 2.6 has been released.  Some of the initial new features include better content assist and syntax highlighting for Groofvy.  There are also content-assist quickfixes for @autowired and @qualifier.

Take another look at the comments you are attributing to Mike Milinkovich.  I believe they are from some guy named 'steve'.   The comments from Mike are the following:

To be clear - what this group has done is simply work on a first draft for community feedback. Because, well, someone had to do it :-)

We look forward to hearing feedback from everyone in the community. And that certainly includes large contributors such as Red Hat, Google and Apple.
